Outside fire upgraded to Residential Structure Fire

Monday, June 29, 2020
Sunday June 28th at 11:50 a.m. the Sussex County EOC alerted Dagsboro VFD for an outside fire behind a residence in the 32000 block of Molly Field Road. Fire Chief D.Betts arrived on scene just after dispatch to find fire had consumed most of the back yard with exposures to the residence. Prior to the arrival of any fire apparatus the fire had reached the structure and rapidly consumed the interior roof space, Chief Betts then upgraded the alarm to a working structure fire adding Millsboro VFC, Frankford VFC, and SCEMS. Upon the arrival of E73-1, under the direction of Asst. Chief Glenn, two handlines were place in service to begin fire attack, once the mutual aid apparatus arrived on scene crews worked diligently on fire suppression efforts. Due to the extremely hot temperatures in an attempt to rotate crews out frequently, command requested the cover up units be moved into the scene in which added Georgetown VFC and Selbyville VFC for the extra manpower. Personnel worked on scene for approximately two hours. Apparatus on scene: E73-1, Quint 73, E/T73-3, Tanker 73, 76-1, 76-2, E83-4, Rescue 83, Tanker 83, E/T77, Tanker 79-5, E88-1, A76, B79, SCEMS 100 & 103, Red Cross
